About Gift Blogs

I have been offering domains and websites as gifts for the last several years. The idea was inspired by trying to find something different to give my son for his birthday.

It finally occurred to me that since he loves gaming, that I would register a couple domains and then host and help him create the sites.

 I wanted to get him to do something else besides playing the games. I thought that creating a website or two based on his favorite pastime might be the way to do it.

He now manages a couple sites for gamers and is applying to colleges majoring in Computer Science.

I have helped lots of folks over the last few years to create their first website. Many of them really wanted a site but thought that it would be too difficult. I searched and found some of the easiest to use Web editing software and showed these folks that they didn't need to know any coding or have any special technical skills to create a website. Everyone would have a live site by the end of our 1- day workshop. These were traditional HTML sites.

As WordPress has become more and more user friendly, I started showing people how to use that for their sites. With WordPress, you can literally have a live site within minutes! the new default theme is so much nicer looking than in previous versions.

This is the first year I am offering to set up Blogger Blogs as gifts. There are some advantages for using Blogger-

• No monthly hosting fees (unless you use a custom domain)
• Blogger does all the upgrading and technical maintenance. 
• Blogger does not need a great deal of tweaking and is great for beginners. It has a simple dashboard, so it's easier to navigate and I can teach folks how to use Blogger within an hour or two.

This is a great inexpensive gift, especially when money is tight. The new blog owner can also decide to convert it to a WordPress blog in the future if they wish. Checkout this for more details.

WordPress Sites

I also offer WordPress sites, which is better for professional and business use. I do all the techie work for them. The site is installed in a practice area -sort of a "Playground" before moving it to their hosted domain. There, they can play & have fun without having to worry about breaking anything or someone seeing their work before they want them to.
